Trampoline Reviews & Recommendations

If you’re a parent like me looking for the ideal trampoline to buy but don’t where to start, well this article is meant for you. I have spent about 6 months researching for the ideal trampoline when my twin girls just joined their high school cheer leading team and have been nagging to me about a trampoline for months. As a parent, I don’t mind getting the best piece of equipment when it comes to my kid’s safety, but at the same time, I don’t want to throw away good money after bad.

Now first determine if you’re going to buy a round trampoline or rectangle trampoline. For competition jumping and gymnastics, I would recommend the rectangular size. Rectangle configuration trampoline provides a jumper better control and higher bounce. Whereas the round ones, it tends to gravitate the jumper towards the center. I was told by a trampoline manufacturer and a trampoline coach on this, so by all means, go and follow up with a local gymnastic coach. And when determining if the trampoline is considered premium quality, or competition grade, make sure they have these specs. Steel frame should be at least 2.5mm or 3.0 mm. The thicker the frame, the better it will support the center when there’s a lot of pressure being bounced on it. The more springs, the better. On a big rectangular trampoline like the 10x17 and 14x16, make sure to have at least 90 springs or more. 8.5” or longer is ideal. This will allow better and softer bounce rather than bouncing on hard platforms as this will wear out your joints and knees sooner. Make sure mats are made of USA Permatron. This is premium quality grade mats. Any other mat will tear within a few years. And make sure mats should have at least 8 to 10 stitching at the outer perimeter where the V-rings are hooked on. By having more stitching layers, this will ensure the V-rings will not fall off through the years. Remember, there are a lot of pressure and force being stretched on the mat and the stitching is its weakest point. And the safety pads (aka, spring pads) should be no less than 1.5 inch. This protects the jumper from being exposed to the springs. Too thin and it will rip or wear out easily or the jumper can land on it and get hurt from the springs. And above all, make sure there is a net enclosure to protect the jumper from falling out. A strong pole support with at least 1.5 mm thick should be sufficient. And make sure the net comes with zippers or a tie-down so small kids don’t fall out. Couple suggestions of manufacturers that provide all these specs are better would be Trampoline Jumpers, Happy Trampoline, IJUMPUSA, Jumpsport.

Replacement Laptop Screen

Replacement Laptop Screen

Approximately 6 months ago, I needed a replacement laptop screen. The problem started when I turned my computer on one morning to finish a university assignment.

It began to make its usual start-up noise. As the picture was due to come onto the screen, all I was met with were coloured vertical lines.

I visited my local computer repair shop to ask the engineer what the problem was with my computer. For all I knew, it could have been a virus! The engineer found my worries of a virus very funny, and then informed me that it was some of the tiny pixels in the screen that were damaged.

I decided to try and get the screen fixed there and then. He gave me a time period for fixing it. It would take weeks to fix as they didn’t have the correct parts and needed to buy them specifically for each job. The price was way out of my budget, too.

So I contacted the laptop’s manufacturer to try and get a bit more advice. They said they could help, but the lead time would be similar, but the price would be even higher.

At this point, I was beginning to think that I would have to get a new laptop and lose all my university work.

I decided to try one more avenue, so I went on the internet in the university library in search of laptop screen repair companies. Laptop LCD ScreensIt wasn’t long before I found a company that offered to collect my laptop that day, provide a free, full inspection and diagnosis, and replacement screen the following day, with the laptop returned to me the day after. So I agreed, and had my laptop collected on Monday and returned to me on Wednesday, which seemed incredible! The price was really good, too. Much lower than the other quotes I had received.

I would recommend them if you are having problems with your laptop, I’m sure they can help. Here are the details:

Laptop Screen Repair

Laptop Screen Repair

When I dropped my laptop, the screen cracked and the image became all coloured and wavy. It was impossible to see the image that should be there and I desperately needed to fix it, as it had all the work information I needed.

Initially, I didn’t know what to do. It was the first time it had happened to me. The screen seems like the most important and expensive part, so I imagined that it would cost an arm and a leg to fix or repair it.

I made some enquiries at the local computer repair shop, hoping they could repair the crack in some way. It turned out that they would have to replace the entire screen. It would take several weeks for them to get the part and then replace it.

This seemed like bad news; I can’t afford to buy a new screen and it needs a professional engineer to replace it!

The manufacturer confirmed my worries when I phoned them for further advice. They offered to fix it with all of their official parts, but the time delay would be similar and the cost would be extremely high.

I decided to search the internet for an alternative. I soon came across a website that would offer to replace my laptop screen for a much more affordable price.

Laptop LCD ScreensI gave them a phone call and they talked me through how they could arrange the collection and delivery of the laptop, perform an inspection and diagnosis of any problems for free, and then replace my screen at a fixed price plus the cost of the screen.

They arranged to collect the laptop from my workplace on Wednesday, replaced the screen on Thursday and I had the laptop back at work on Friday. I was amazed that such a technical operation could be conducted in such a short period of time. They are able to do this because they keep a range of screens in stock.

I would recommend them if you are having problems with your laptop, I’m sure they can help. Here are the details:

Laptop LCD Screens

Laptop LCD Screens

Whilst carrying my laptop to my car I suddenly slipped and it dropped onto the hard concrete floor, instantly cracking the screen.

As soon as I did it, I was devastated, because I use it for work, socialising, shopping, and hundreds of other things. All my personal files, folders and information are saved to it, too.

I also had a big report due in on the Friday and it was Monday. I needed it back with me and repaired by Thursday to stand a chance of getting it in on time. Four days to get it repaired seemed like enough; or so I thought.

Due to the time restrictions, I visited the local computer repair shop to try and get it fixed straight away. After inspecting it, they confirmed that a screen replacement may take over a week for the parts to arrive. Plus, the time to fix it would need to be added on. The prices they were quoting were very high, too.

I decided against this option as I needed it to be repaired as soon as possible.

I contacted the manufacturer to see if they could fix the problem any quicker. Unfortunately, it would also take a long time to get it repaired, and was even more expensive than the local computer repair shop.

After running out of ideas, I decided to look for a solution on the internet. I soon came across a company that could replace my laptop screen in a short space of time.

I phoned them to find out the details, and they offered to have a courier collect and return my laptop to either my home or workplace, and provide a free inspection and diagnosis service, which I accepted.

Laptop LCD ScreensWhilst inspecting my computer, they noticed that it was running very slowly. I had been unhappy with this problem, as it takes me a long time to operate different programs at the same time. They offered to perform a tune-up and optimisation service which would take no extra time, so I agreed.

They collected my laptop on the Tuesday and I had it back again on the Thursday, running as fast as when I first got it, and with a beautiful new screen, too.

I would definitely recommend that you at least contact them if you are having problems with your laptop, I’m sure they can help. Here are the details:

What makes a voting system fair?

What makes a voting system fair?

Most will agree that “fairness” of the vote is the most important criteria for a voting system whether paper voting or online voting. “Fairest” vote could be defined as the vote which best represents the wish of the majority of the electorate.

Many things can affect fairness of the vote. For example:

* the openness of the contest to willing candidates

* the ease with which people can vote and gain access to information on candidates

* the vote counting method

* the integrity of the vote harvest, vote counting and result reporting

* the existence and transparency of an audit trail

* ease with which voters can confirm that their vote was recorded and counted correctly, and

* the time, cost and resources required to run a vote.

The choice between an online voting system, paper voting system or hybrid voting system can affect all these aspects of the vote fairness. As the manager of BigPulse.com, a firm that has specialized in high security online voting for ten years, my bias is clearly declared towards online voting and in some cases hybrid voting.

Security and protection of anonymity are the hardest to get right in any voting system, requiring many years of testing in electronic voting systems. However a properly tested online voting system can offer many advantages for security, transparency, accessibility, flexibility and cost.

A flexible online voting system will cater for many vote counting methods. The choice of vote counting method is an important consideration in fairness, for example first-past-the- post voting (FPTP) , Single Transferable Vote (STV), Instant-runoff voting (IRV) or range voting – and each method can produce different winners.

However it is not always clear which voting counting method provides the best measurement of majority opinion as there is not always a definitive mathematical answer to this question.

For example a single round vote FPTP contest with three or more candidates can produce a winner which never wins in a paired contest with any other candidate, while it is possible that a losing candidate in a FPTP vote contest may win in any paired contest. Most people will agree that in this case the FPTP result is not fair and an alternative voting method that comes closer to emulating the paired result is fairer. Preferential voting, that is, ranked voting methods and FPTP with multiple rounds of voting tend to reduce this risk of eliminating candidates that do better in paired contests.

Maximizing the degree of proportional representation and minimizing the incentive for strategic voting are two important measures of fairness. Proportional representation means the elected candidates represent the natural divisions within the electorate. Strategic voting means voting for what you think is the best possible or likely outcome even if it means not voting according to your true preferences – for example in a contest with three or more candidates, voters can be tempted to guess how others will vote and attempt to vote in a manner that gives the best likely result, rather than voting their true preferences.

A degree of proportional representation is possible in contests with more than one winner, the more winners the more proportional it can be. In this case the form of preferential or ranked voting known as Single Transferable Vote is fairer than FPTP because the Single Transferable Vote is much better than FPTP at producing proportional representation. However in a single winner contest (known as instant-runoff in the case of Single Transferable Vote), neither system can produce proportional representation, although Single Transferable Vote may be considered fairer in the sense that it leaves the door open to proportional representation.

If elimination of strategic voting is the criteria of fairness then the fair choice between FPTP and instant-runoff is not quite so obvious as it depends on the number of candidates and how many rounds of voting can be tolerated with FPTP voting. For example, if only one candidate is eliminated after each round of voting then, from the perspective of strategic voting, the FPTP vote is just as fair as instant run off and also allows people to simply vote their first preference in each round of voting.

However FPTP is inferior to instant-runoff when more than one candidate is eliminated after any round of FPTP voting. Also with multiple round FPTP voting, voter fatigue, cost and time delay may all impact on fairness. For example a contest with 10 candidates can require up to nine rounds of voting using FPTP if it is to match the fairness of an instant runoff vote. The instant-runoff vote requires only one round of voting.

Maureen Mackay

From Blairgowrie

Monday 7 September 2009

“Dear Sir,

It is now one week since we were visited by your Sales Manager, Mr Frank Sinclair regarding our ‘Post Code’ Security System Offer.

He arrived at the surprising time of 8:45 pm and spent the next two and a half hours giving a breezy account of the benefits of the system, the ease of having it installed, the great sense of security it would bring and the comfort we would have in knowing that the financial side of the venture would not break the bank is a insignificant factor for a ‘senior citizens’.

Frank’s manner was courteous, friendly, caring and persuasive without being pushy.

We found his ‘patter’ amusing, entertaining but shrewd and to the point.

Reverting to time when we handed out marks as teachers we’d give him a very well deserved 10/10.

Yours Truly

Maureen Mackay

P.S The system is working beautifully!”
